When Did You Stop Trusting Yourself?

Text saying When Did You Stop Trusting Yourself

There was probably a time when you trusted yourself.

You knew what you liked.
You knew what you didn’t.
You followed your curiosity.
You said yes when something felt right - and no when it didn’t.

You didn’t need to have everything figured out.

You simply had a sense of yourself.

And then, somewhere along the way, things changed.

Maybe you started listening more closely to what other people thought. Maybe you learned to prioritise security, approval, success or responsibility. Maybe you experienced disappointment, rejection or failure and began questioning your own judgement.

Slowly, you stopped asking:

“What do I actually think?”

and started asking:

“What should I think?”

That shift can be difficult to notice because it often happens gradually.

You can build a perfectly respectable life while becoming increasingly disconnected from yourself.

You can have the career, relationship, home, responsibilities and achievements - and still feel that something isn't quite right.

When did your own voice become so quiet?

Self-trust isn't about believing that you'll always make the right decision.

It's knowing that you can listen to yourself, make a choice, learn from the consequences and adjust when necessary.

It is the confidence to say:

“I don't know yet, but I trust myself to find out.”

But modern life can make that surprisingly difficult.

We're surrounded by opinions, advice, expectations and comparison.

Social media tells us what success should look like.

Family and friends may have ideas about what we should do.

Work can dictate what is valuable.

And sometimes our own past becomes another voice telling us what is possible - or impossible.

Eventually, we can become so accustomed to looking outside ourselves for answers that we forget to look within.

Self-awareness comes before self-trust

You can't genuinely trust a version of yourself that you don't really know.

That's why self-awareness matters.

It means becoming curious about your thoughts, emotions, values, habits, fears, desires and patterns.

It means noticing when you're saying yes because you genuinely want to - and when you're saying yes because you're afraid of disappointing someone.

It means recognising the difference between what you want and what you've been taught to want.

And sometimes it means admitting:

“The life I've created no longer feels like my life.”

That doesn't necessarily mean you need to walk away from everything.

It may simply mean you need to pause.

To listen.

To reconnect.

To remember who you are beneath the expectations, roles and stories you've accumulated along the way.

You don't always need another answer

Sometimes what we really need isn't more information.

It's space.

Space to step away from the noise and ask better questions.

What matters to me now?

What am I tolerating that I no longer want to tolerate?

Where am I living from fear rather than choice?

What have I been ignoring?

What would I do differently if I trusted myself?

And perhaps the biggest question:

What do I already know - but haven't been willing to admit?

These questions can create clarity because the answers are often already somewhere inside us.

They just get buried.

This is the thinking behind my Personal Realignment & Reset Sessions.

These are one-to-one sessions for people who feel stuck, confused, disconnected or simply aware that something needs to change.

You don't need to arrive with a perfectly defined problem.

You might be questioning your career, relationships, direction, lifestyle or what comes next.

The purpose isn't for me to tell you what to do.

It's to create a space where you can pause, become more aware, question what isn't working, reconnect with yourself and begin to identify your own next step.

Because realignment isn't necessarily about becoming someone new.

Sometimes it's about remembering who you already are.

And perhaps it's time to trust yourself again

You don't have to have your whole future worked out.

You don't need absolute certainty.

You don't need everyone else to agree with you.

You may simply need to start listening to yourself again.

One honest question.

One uncomfortable truth.

One decision.

One small step.

Then another.

Self-trust is rebuilt through action.

You listen.

You choose.

You learn.

You adjust.

And, gradually, you begin to feel more at home in your own life.

When did you stop trusting yourself?

More importantly:

What would become possible if you started again?
